Their message: If others are going to play ball, let's get in on the action, too. "The big question is if the oil companies have enough political clout for an easing in sanctions, " said Raul Gallegos, a Bogota-based director at Control Risks, an international consulting firm. "They are interested in the flexibility that Maduro is offering. "The U. Hospital gets first shipment of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 15, 2020. (Photo: Cape Fear Valley Bladen Healthcare) BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Valley Health will begin offering Covid-19 vaccinations to Group 5 next week. That means anyone 16 and older will be able to schedule an appointment with Cape Fear Valley to receive a vaccine. This also includes Cape Fear Valley's Bladen County Hospital. Vice President of Professional Services at Cape Fear Valley Health Chris Tart, PharmD, said they're opening up appointments to Group 5 because of a decrease in demand from the other parts of the local population. "Rather than have doses go unused, we want to give more people the chance to get their vaccine, " Tart said. "We hope this will encourage more people to roll up their sleeve. " Only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for those 16 and older. The Moderna and the Johnson and Johnson vaccines are approved for people 18 and older. Patients under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Mississippi officials boast of having one of the lowest coronavirus infection rates among state prison systems, but 10 months into the pandemic, the state's rate of testing is also among the lowest, a New York Times database shows. Across the country, the coronavirus has battered prisons and jails, infecting more than half a million inmates and correctional officers, yet testing in some states has been so limited as to cloud their statistics on infections. Critics say the low testing numbers at Mississippi prisons and the high rate of positive results when they do test suggest a more extensive problem than the state has acknowledged. "We think widespread testing is so important, " said Cliff Johnson, the director of the University of Mississippi School of Law's MacArthur Justice Center, part of a group that pushed for a legal agreement last year requiring the state's corrections department to take more steps to protect inmates from the coronavirus. "Knowing exactly how many people have been infected in your facilities and exactly how many people have died is critically important if you are serious about remedying infections and saving lives. "
