I don't have children or family so this is pretty much the most important project in my life. I have made it abundantly clear to the kids that they are never annoying me with questions or asking for help AT ALL. I asked one of my homeroom kids how his citizenship stuff was coming along and what I could do to help. I've had my homeroom kids for 2. 5 years so they're as close to "my kids" as anything. I've even been to some of their houses (we're required to do home visits). This student bashfully told me that Ms. A was helping him. Inside I was immediately confused. "Oh! That's great! But why didn't you ask me? I'm your homeroom teacher and I started the CSC, I know about this stuff. I am always available. " He told me, "Well you always look busy. " That's true, I'm always busy, but whenever a student asks me for help - especially a homeroom kid - I immediately pause and help them. I was quietly mildly offended - not because he chose her over me (I really just want them to succeed and get citizenship) but because she was taking over.
